My Car Is Now More "Mine" Than The Original Owner's

This actually happened a few thousand miles back, but since I bought my car with just over 38k miles on it, and I now have just over 80k, this car has officially had more miles put on it by me than by the previous owner. I think everyone who buys a used car tries to do things to make it “theirs”, but it’s a good feeling to know that my car has been with me longer than anyone else. Thanks for taking good care of her, Mr-California-music-producer-who-turned-her-in-after-your-lease, but she’s all mine now.

I might be screwed, but if you count parts replaced or modified...its damn well better be mine by now.

That’s a good way to think of it, too. How many miles when you bought it?

222,000

I don't think I'll ever know this feeling. My auto ADD is far too severe. Most I've ever put on a car before getting rid of it is probably 40k.

You can do it!

Hahaha - I put 90k on my last car, and love the idea of taking my M3 past 150 or even 200k. My wife’s car was bought new in ‘08, and has 180k on it.

Congrats! 1 month and 1500 miles into my used car exploration and it still doesn’t feel mine . A track day earlier this week helped for sure. Perhaps I’ll swap the wheels, but its hard to improve on the Advan RS the previous owner so fittingly chose.

Thanks. I think track days and long, aimless, twisty backroadtrips definitely go a long way to that end. An OPPO sticker will surely help.

How’d she do at the track? Everything you’d hoped for and more? =)

It’ll never happen for me. I got my car with 225k miles. And it’s been so unreliable I’d be amazed if it makes it to 250k.

It happens. That’s what I get for buying a $500 car. :)

Congrats on making that car yours.

Thanks. Hope you manage to get yours running well and it ends up being worth far more than the $500 you gave for it.

Hardly. Since I got it in May, I’ve spent over $1200 in parts alone.

It’s a car, it only strands me 15 ish times a year, and it’s mildly fun. All I can ask.

Once I can get a reliable nice car, this will be a lemons race car with a $50 junkyeard turbo. :)

Car was an absolute animal on the track. Equally capable as the FR-S in the tight sections (partly driver skill) and a monster on the gas. Braking was inspiring and the S54 engine and transmission never missed a beat.

Color me impressed. Don’t talk to me about the brake pad, oil change and 60K service I am about to approach. Increased costs and lower mpg were a fair trade, it oozes character in ways the FR-S simply failed to.
